Frist draft of the October to December Galleries on the 1971 Scrapbook Page has been completed!
Vietnam Scrapbooks!
Now that the 2024 Reunion Season has come to an end, I have been able to resume going through documents and building the Vietnam Scrapbooks on the website! I just finished the first draft of October to December 1971. As usual, there is always more material to add and edits to complete, BUT...the first draft is live on the website.
In October of 1971, the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) commenced Operation OPORD 11-71, which was essentially the drawdown and redeployment of the division from the Republic of Vietnam to FT Campbell, Kentucky. The 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry portion of the overall operation was titled Operation Monsoon Dynamic Defense. Operations were scaled back, the battalion's area of operation was reduced and the role of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam was increased. On November 21, 1971, the Rakkasans ceased all combat operations and final preparations for redeployment were made.
In early December of 1971, the 3/187th colors were returned to FT. Campbell, Kentucky. The battalion had returned home after four years of combat.

What are the Vietnam Scrapbooks?
The Vietnam Scrapbooks are organized by year - 1967 to 1971. Each year has a dedicated page. In each year's page, there are summaries and photo galleries organized by month. The photo galleries mimic old scrapbooks or photo albums, with articles, photos, maps, and other memorabilia. The galleries are not intended to tell the entire story of the 3/187th and soldiers in Vietnam, but simply to present pieces.
