TERMS OF USE - Contributed Items & Interviews

The Steel Thread Project (TSTP) aims to create a digital collection of pictures, interviews, personal records, personal letters, US Army records and other memorabilia related to the 187th Infantry Regiment. This collection will be catalogued and saved for current and future researchers and for the purpose of chronicling the history of the Regiment. The collection will be made available to the public through a website, social media accounts, articles and other writings and publications. The website provides a public platform for both the Regiment history and the stories of the individual veterans. TSTP is requesting copies and/or digital images (scanned or photographed) of items in veterans’ personal collections. Items requested include (but not limited to): personal pictures, letters, articles, mementos, and written memoirs. TSTP is requesting that veterans and family members participate in interviews. Interviews can be completed by phone, through written means (personal memories, personal notes or questionnaire sent through mail or email) and/or through audio-video recordings (through Zoom or at reunions). TSTP will use items and information from personal collections and interviews for the following purposes: Researching, chronicling, and writing the 187th Infantry Regiment history for publication on TSTP website, social media accounts and other publications; Displaying digital images of items on TSTP website for public view; Posting digital images on TSTP social media platforms for public view; Use for TSTP promotional/marketing material for public view; Direct quotes to enhance writings, website or postings to social media platforms; Creating archive of documents and information for access and use by veterans, their families, and researchers; Creating personal sections on the TSTP website for individual veterans that will display the individual’s pertinent background information, information regarding service, personal stories/quotes, digital images and any other information (that aligns with the TSTP Mission and Core Values) requested by contributor or participant. Contributors of personal items such as personal pictures, letters, mementos and written memoirs must have legal and rightful ownership of the items. Contributor will maintain ownership and intellectual copyrights to the item but will allow TSTP use as outlined above. Contributors of personal items and/or interview participants can specify, limit or restrict TSTP use of any personal items and information. An agreement can be worked out between TSTP and contributor and/or participant. TSTP will appropriately chronicle, cite and credit material when used by TSTP. This includes (but not limited to): item and information source (if known); source company, platoon and years served (if known and applicable); identification of location and persons in images (if known and applicable); any other pertinent background information related to material. The exception might be certain promotional materials. TSTP will not sell or use any personal items or interview material for commercial purposes, nor will TSTP grant permission for other parties or entities to use personal items or interview material without express permission of contributor and/or participant. TSTP will honor the contributor and/or participants requests to remove, edit and/or modify personal items or material displayed on TSTP website, digital platforms, social media platforms, writings and or promotional materials. However, TSTP will not be able to alter writings or promotional materials that were distributed prior to the request. TSTP will display images and information in a manner that is respectful and honorable to the veterans, their families, those that have passed on. TSTP will not use personal items or material in a manner other than outlined in this document unless specific permission from contributor and/or participant is obtained. It is important to note that TSTP will make personal items and material available for public view (unless use is specified, limited or restricted through agreement with TSTP). If items are misused by a third party or entity, it will be the responsibility of the original owner/creator to determine if copyright infringement has occurred and/or pursue any legal actions.
