Speak Their Names
Bravo Company suffered the first 3/187th soldier killed in action on January 17, 1968. The final loss of life for the company (and the battalion) occurred on October 17, 1971.
This gallery is dedicated to the Bravo Company soldiers who did not make it home. They will not be forgotten.

3rd Platoon
Richardson, Gary
Gary Richardson deployed with the battalion in December of 1967. He served with Bravo Company, 3rd Platoon. Gary survived his tour and returned stateside in November of 1968.

Smith, R.C.
R.C. Smith deployed with the Advance Party in November of 1967 during Operation Eagle Thrust. He served with Bravo Company, 3rd Platoon. R.C. Smith survived his tour and returned stateside in November of 1968.

2nd Platoon
Swope, David
David Swope deployed with the 3/187th in December of 1967 during Operation Eagle Thrust. He served as 2nd Platoon Leader. In late April 1968 he was infused into MACV and completed his tour in IV Corps. David Swope survived his tour but passed away in 2018.

Company RTO
Russell, Charles Glenn
GOLD STAR FAMILY
Charles Glenn Russell arrived in Vietnam in March of 1968. In the summer of 1968 he was made battalion RTO for CPT Robert Friedrich (COL., retired). On September 7, 1968 Glenn was killed in action as elements of Bravo Company were coming to the aid of a platoon from Charlie Company that had been pinned down.

Vita, Jim
Jim arrived in Vietnam in March of 1968. He served with Bravo Company. Jim returned stateside in March of 1969. Although he survived his tour, Jim passed away in 2011. Photos were provided courtesy of his widow, Deborah Sessions Vita.

Cunningham, Joseph
Joseph arrived in Vietnam in April of 1968. He served with Bravo Company. Joseph was wounded in action on September 7, 1968. He spent several months in hospitals in Vietnam and Japan before returning stateside to continue his recovery and treatment at Walter Reed Hospital.

3rd Platoon
Robinson, Leonard
Leonard arrived in Vietnam in July of 1968 and served with Bravo Company, 3rd Platoon. He was WIA on two occasions: the first on September 12, 1968 and the second in April of 1969 during the assault on Dong Ngai. Leonard completed his tour and returned stateside in July of 1969.

3rd Platoon
Bunge, Sam
Sam initially served with the 3/187th as Platoon Leader for Bravo Company, 3rd Platoon under CPT Bob Friedrich in III Corps and I Corps and later under LT Robison. He then moved to the Battalion S-1 Shop. LT Bunge eventually ended up at 3rd Brigade HHC - Security Platoon.

Helms, Dennis
Dennis arrived in Vietnam in November of 1968 and served with Bravo Company, 1st Platoon. He survived his tour in Vietnam and returned stateside in November of 1969.

1st Platoon
Gann, Terry
Terry arrived in Vietnam in September of 1968 and served with Bravo Company, 1st Platoon. He was wounded in action during the assault on Dong Ap Bia/Hamburger Hill. After recovering, Terry completed his US Army service at FT Ord, California as a Basic Training Instructor.

Snyder, John
John arrived in Vietnam in November of 1968 and served with Bravo Company. John survived his year tour and returned stateside in November of 1969.

Bob joined the 3/187th at Camp Evans just prior to the start or Dewey Canyon II/Lam San 719.
