Speak Their Names
Alpha Company suffered their first soldier killed in action on January 29, 1968. The final loss of life for the company occurred on May 28, 1971.
This gallery is dedicated to the Alpha Company soldiers who did not make it home. They will not be forgotten.

Christian, Vernon Webb
GOLD STAR FAMILY
Vernon deployed with the 3/187th in December of 1967 during Operation Eagle Thrust. Vernon was killed in action on August 20, 1968 during a combat operation near Phuoc Vinh. Photos provided courtesy of his sister, Marlene Christian Bumgardner.

Fuscone, Joseph
Joseph Fuscone deployed with the 3/187th in December of 1967 during Operation Eagle Thrust. He served with Alpha Company. Joe was wounded in action in the early morning hours of September 6, 1968 outside the village of Ap Trang Dau.

Lucius, John
John Lucius deployed with the battalion in December of 1967 during Operation Eagle Thrust. He served with HHC/Alpha Company After his first tour in Vietnam, John became a helicopter pilot and served a second tour.

Nugent, Joseph
2nd Platoon
Joseph Nugent deployed with the battalion in December of 1967 during Operation Eagle Thrust. He served with Alpha Company. Joe returned stateside in November of 1968.

Randall While deployed with the 3/187th in December of 1967 during Operation Eagle Thrust. He served with Alpha Company.

Hollnagel, Richard
Richard joined the 3/187th in April of 1069. He served with Alpha Company until late September of 1968 when he moved to HHC - S-4 Supply. Richard returned home in March of 1969.

KInler, Larry
Larry arrived in Vietnam in July of 1968. He served with Alpha Company from July 1968 through late 1968 when he transferred to Echo Company - Mortars.
The majority of Larry's pictures are from his periord of service with Echo Company - Mortars. Therefore, his pictures can be found on the Echo Company Page.

Harris, Don
Don Harris arrived in Vietnam in September of 1968. He served with the 3/187th through September 1969. He served with Alpha Company through late 1968 or early 1969. He transferred to Echo Company - 4.2 Mortars but was then moved back into Alpha Company in early 1969.

Jones, Bobby
Bobby Jones arrived in Vietnam in September of 1968. His first day with the 3/187th was September 16, 1968 - the night FSB Pope was attacked. In December of 1968, he became an instructor at the Screaming Eagle Replacement Training School in Bien Hoa.

West, Gregory
Gregory West arrived in Vietnam in October of 1968. He initially served with Charlie Company but was transferred to Alpha Company in April of 1969. Greg returned stateside in August of 1969

Donald Melochick Sr. served with Alpha Company from January 1969 through October of 1969.

Powell, Leon
2nd Platoon
Leon Powell arrived in Vietnam in May of 1969. He joined Alpha Company, 2nd Platoon after the battle at Dong Ap Bia when the battalion was rebuilding. Alpha Company was pulling security around the An Lo Bridge. Leon returned stateside in April of 1970. He completed his service the US Army at Ft Carson, Colorado.

Gene Fischbach arrived in Vietnam in July of 1969. He joined Alpha Company, 2nd Platoon. He returned stateside in July, 1969.

Bob Groper arrived in Vietnam in September of 1969. He joined Alpha Company, 2nd Platoon, right after the 3/187th move to Camp Evans and Phong Dien. He returned stateside in September, 1969.
